Tucker Carlson, Fox News’ most popular prime-time 8 p.m. host, has been ousted by the network. The announcement comes following Fox News’ agreeing to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems as part of the defamation case settlement.

A news release by Fox News read:

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st.”

No reason was given for his departure.

“Tucker Carlson Tonight,” was one of the most-watched shows on American cable news. He joined Fox as a contributor in 2009 and then served as co-host of the weekend show “Fox & Friends Weekend” from 2012 to 2016.

Initially, Carlson began his career as a fact-checker for the conservative journal Policy Review and has also worked at the conservative opinion magazine The Weekly Standard. He also wrote op-eds for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

He also wrote columns, opinion pieces and profiles for Esquire, The New Republic, Forbes, Slate, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, and The Wall Street Journal.

Carlson is a graduate of Trinity College.
