Wall Street Journal publisher Almar Latour and editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Tuesday:
Dear all,
Our colleague Evan Gershkovich appeared in the Moscow City Court today for another pre-trial hearing, where his detention was once again upheld, this time until at least June 30 – ensuring Evan remains in a Russian prison well past one year. This is Evan’s 12th court appearance, baseless proceedings that falsely portray him as something other than what he is, and his wrongful detention remains unconscionable. Evan is a journalist who was doing his job – we must not let anyone, or any government, say otherwise.
As we take this week to recognize the difficult one year mark and reach as many people as possible with Evan’s story, we will continue to do everything in our power to secure his release. The attention and interest around one year is heartening, and we all must be sure to keep Evan front and center for as long as he is wrongfully detained.
Thank you as ever for your continued support for Evan and his family.
Almar and Emma
