TL;DR
- A rumor from a notable tipster suggests Qualcomm could launch two versions of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
- According to the rumor, the variant may be an ultra-high frequency version.
- The ultra-high frequency chip is said to reach the 3.4 to 3.5GHz range.
The wait for Qualcomm to finally announce its next flagship system on a chip (SoC) is almost over, with the launch expected to happen sometime during the company’s November event. While we’ve been expecting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for some time now, rumor suggests we could be in store for a surprise variant of said chipset.
The rumor comes courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station. Through a post on the Chinese social media site Weibo, Digital Chat Station claims that Qualcomm could be preparing to launch two separate versions of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
This variant would reportedly be an ultra-high frequency chip that raises clock speeds considerably. According to Digital Chat Station, one of the chipsets would be your standard chipset, while the ultra-high frequency chip would be able to run at 3.4 to 3.5GHz. For comparison, the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 runs at 3.19GHz.
Although all of this sounds exciting, you should take this rumor with a large grain of salt. The chances of this rumor being true are small. It wouldn’t make much sense for Qualcomm to launch two chipsets at the same time like what’s being suggested in this rumor.
In addition to talking about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the tipster also mentioned Mediatek’s upcoming Dimensity chip. They claim the next chip from Mediatek could bring big improvements to CPU performance. If you’d like to see how the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000 fair against each other, you can check out the comparisons here.
