The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times Opinion editor Kathleen Kingsbury and deputy Opinion editor Patrick Healy:
Frank Augugliaro has been promoted to design director. Since joining the desk in 2019, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the visual identity for Opinion, collaborating on our recent digital and print redesigns.
Jessia Ma has been promoted to deputy editor. She joined The Times in 2017, and since her move from the graphics team in 2019, she has expanded our digital reach by designing and developing delightful interactives that creatively package our journalism and continually elevate our ambitions. In her new role, Jessia will assume managerial duties and continue to lead design and digital development of new templates and interactive features. She will also bridge access to NYT product and newsroom to leverage new digital functionality while collaborating with editors to identify solutions that further differentiate and diversify the Opinion report.
Kate Elazegui, who is being promoted to creative director, will now have more time to focus on the high-level thinking and design work that makes Opinion decisively clear and different from the news report. She has worked with teams across the company to keep The Times at the forefront of opinion journalism, imagining where we can go visually in order to best tell the stories of the day.
On the graphics team, Taylor Maggiacomo is joining as our newest editor. She was an associate graphic editor at National Geographic, where she produced infographics and data visualizations for the magazine, such as a visual timeline of animals sent into space, how woodpeckers help in forest recovery, G.D.P. versus carbon emissions in India and the science of snow leopards. She holds a graduate certificate in natural science illustration from California State University, Monterey Bay, and a B.S. in biology and a minor in art from Carnegie Mellon University.
Gus Wezerek has been with Opinion Graphics since 2019 and has now been promoted to senior staff editor. Before his role at The Times, Gus worked at FiveThirtyEight, Harvard University, Wired magazine and The Boston Globe.
Annie Galvin joined Opinion Audio in April of 2021 to work on “The Ezra Klein Show,” and now she has been promoted to producer on the team.
On the “First Person” team, Olivia Natt has been promoted to senior producer. She has been central to shaping and developing the show since her arrival at Opinion Audio in August 2020. Before joining The Times, she produced for Gimlet, New York magazine, NPR, Slate and Audible. She was a founding producer on the podcasts “The Cut on Tuesdays” and “Where Should We Begin? With Esther Perel.”
