Margot Robbie‘s triumphant press run for the Barbie movie is coming to an end, but the star made sure to go out with a bang, literally. For the Los Angeles premiere, Robbie channeled the beloved Solo in the Spotlight Barbie from 1960 with a perfectly curled, perky ponytail and retro swooped bang, and honestly, she’s never looked so much like the doll — which is really saying something, given how beautifully she’s slipped into Barbie’s signature arched stiletto heels.

The ponytail is key to the Solo in the Spotlight Barbie look; the 1960 doll wears her hair in a full, fluffy pony with short, brow-length bangs. Since Robbie didn’t want to actually cut bangs, she and her hairstylist Bryce Scarlett opted for a side-swept curled piece instead. “I was inspired to do this doll-like ponytail from the 1960s to coordinate with her stunning ’60s-inspired custom Schiaparelli gown,” Scarlett said.

To get the look, Scarlett applied Redken’s Quick Blowout Lightweight Blowdry Primer Spray from roots to ends on Robbie’s freshly washed hair to decrease blow dry time and add heat protection, then layered with Redken’s Big Blowout Heat Protecting Blowout Gel for maximum volume. Scarlett set Robbie’s hair on Velcro rollers and, once the hair was cool, pulled it back into a ponytail with Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Styler brush. Scarlett curled the ponytail in two-inch curls and also curled the hairline section left out of the pony for that retro swoop. The curls were then brushed out and shaped, and Scarlett used Redken’s Max Hold Hairspray for a flexible, shiny hold on the pink carpet.
