For her makeup, Bailey looked to the “Fathoms Below” (OK, sorry, I’ll stop with the Little Mermaid references) with a sparkling sea blue eye shadow brushed across her lids and black winged liner for definition. On her lips, the star wore a subtle hint of apricot lip gloss. (Can mermaids wear lip gloss? Not sure on the mechanics of under-the-sea makeup application.) Even her manicure was an ode to the ocean; Bailey’s nails were painted with a blue chrome polish to match her dress and covered in teeny tiny pearls and shells. Flounder and Sebastian would definitely approve.
Bailey wears her locs in the movie, and previously shared that director Rob Marshall wanted to incorporate her signature style into Ariel’s look. “With Rob, he’s so amazing and just saying, ‘I see you and I want to bring you into the character,'” Bailey told Entertainment Weekly in 2022. “So it was a beautiful thing. My hair, for example — incorporating my locs into the red hair was something that was really special to me … I’m just grateful that I’ve been able to take the essence of me and mix the two.”
