Chalkbeat has hired Michael Elsen-Rooney as a NYC schools reporter. Elsen-Rooney was an education reporter at the New York Daily News.

Previously, he covered education for Columbia Journalism School’s Teacher Project and The Hechinger Report. He is a former high school Spanish teacher and afterschool program administrator.

Elsen-Rooney has a B.A. from Northwestern University and a M.S. from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
