The Chicago Tribune has promoted Phil Jurik to managing editor, a position empty since September 2021, when Chrissy Taylor left to join Crain’s sister publication Automotive News.
“My goal is going to be to maximize all of our great talent to put everyone in a position to succeed,” Jurik said. “I think readers have proven they will reward hard-hitting, objective work.”
Since joining the paper in 2008, Jurik held various roles, including deputy metro editor, suburban news group editor and metro editor.
He worked as a reporter, assistant city editor and sports editor at Chicago-based paper The Daily Southtown. He started his career as a reporter with The Kansas City Star.
Jurik has a B.A. from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois Springfield.
Be sure to congratulate Jurik on Twitter.
