NY Times appoints Pan as international editor

Philip Pan

The New York Times has tapped Philip Pan to serve as international editor. Since 2019, Pan was the Times’ weekend editor and associate managing editor. He was also the first Asia editor, based in Hong Kong.

Pan was previously at The Washington Post, which he joined in 1995. There he served as a metro staff writer, Beijing correspondent, Beijing bureau chief and Moscow bureau chief.

He authored the award-winning book, “Out of Mao’s Shadow: The Struggle for the Soul of a New China.”

Pan has a B.A. from Harvard University.
