Dallas Morning News names Tanglao senior digital director

Leezel Tanglao has joined The Dallas Morning News as its senior digital director where she will oversee efforts to reach and better connect the organization’s journalism with more readers throughout North Texas.

Tanglao has years of experience leading innovation and increasing membership and audience reach in both national and local media organizations. Her first job was as a reporter in Riverside, Calif., at a newspaper owned at the time by the Belo Corporation, which is now DallasNews Corporation.

Her previous positions have included HuffPost, ABC News and The Associated Press. She was most recently with The Points Guy, where she was Director of Audience Insights and Innovation.

Tanglao is overseeing the newsroom’s research, audience and breaking and trending teams, and partnering closely with the marketing and subscription and newsletter departments.

She is a 2019 Filipino Young Leaders Program delegate and is its 2022 president, chair of the organization’s COVID19 task force and project director of Tayo, a virtual help desk for Filipinos during COVID-19, which received its seed funding from the Booz Allen Foundation.

She is from Carson, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles. and received her bachelor’s degree at Loyola Marymount University in English and a master’s degree at UCLA in Asian American Studies. She was also named 2018 Member of Year by the Asian American Journalists Association and is an alum of AAJA’s Executive Leadership Program.
