Vivo X Fold Plus official

TL;DR

  • Vivo has announced the X Fold Plus foldable.
  • It offers a faster chipset, faster wired charging, and a slightly bigger battery.
  • There’s no word on a global release for this device.

The Vivo X Fold is one of the best non-Samsung foldables out there, packing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a top-tier camera system, and ultra-thin glass (UTG) for improved screen protection. Now, Vivo has announced an iterative upgrade dubbed the X Fold Plus.

The foldable offers the same fundamental design as the original, but offers a few upgrades. For one, you’re getting a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC for better sustained performance and improved power efficiency. You’re also getting a 4,730mAh battery instead of a 4,600mAh capacity, as well as 80W wired charging instead of 66W speeds. Either way, you should expect a slightly bigger battery and much faster charging than the Z Fold 4.

A familiar foldable package

Otherwise, you’re getting the same experience elsewhere. Expect a 6.53-inch FHD+ OLED panel for the external display (120Hz, 21:9) and an 8.03-inch 2,160 × 1,916 foldable screen (120Hz, 4:3.55). The latter also packs UTG protection and an anti-glare coating, while both screens feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Vivo’s phone also features a multi-stop hinge so you can use the screens at various angles, much like Samsung’s Flex Mode.

The new foldable has the same rear camera system as the original model, which in turn was based on the Vivo X80 Pro. Expect a 50MP Samsung GN1 main camera, a 48MP ultrawide shooter (114-degree field-of-view), a 12MP 2x camera, and an 8MP 5x periscope lens. There’s no micro-gimbal stabilization tech as we’ve seen from the company’s traditional flagships, but you’re still getting OIS on the main and periscope sensors. Otherwise, you’ve got a 16MP selfie camera on each screen.

Other Vivo X Fold Plus features include 50W wireless charging, Bluetooth 5.2, an IR blaster, a physical alert slider, Origin OS atop Android 12 (no Android 13 just yet), and Wi-Fi 6. Just don’t expect an IP rating here, unlike the IPX8-toting Galaxy foldables.

Unfortunately the upgraded foldable is a China-only release for now, starting at 9,999 yuan (~$1,397) for the 12GB/256GB model. Expect to pay 10,999 yuan (~$1,537) for the 12GB/512GB variant. We’ve asked Vivo about a wider release and will update the article accordingly.
