TL;DR
- The Pixel Tablet could come with two different docking options.
- One dock could be a combination of a speaker and a charger, while the other might be a charging-only station.
The Pixel Tablet is due to launch later this year and has been doing the rounds in leak land for a while now. Before the weekend, we saw some photos of the device and also heard some details about the unannounced Pixel Tablet Pro thanks to code hunter and tipster Kuba Wojciechowski.
The well-known leaker posted a long thread detailing the Pixel Tablet information he found in lines of Google’s code, but we missed one bit about what a source him about the upcoming tablet. Per Wojciechowski’s informer, the Pixel Tablet will come with two dock options — korlan/K6 and yuzu/Y4. These are possibly the internal codenames or model names for the docks.
One more thing, I thought this was already known, but apparently not: there are indeed two docks for the Pixel Tablet, according to my source – korlan/K6 and yuzu/Y4. One of them has a speaker while the other only supports charging.
We’ve known for a while that the Pixel Tablet will be a stay-at-home device that’ll attach to a smart speaker using pogo pins. The speaker dock will also double up as a charger. However, the new information suggests that Google might have a second dock variant for the Pixel Tablet that doesn’t have a speaker and is only meant to charge the device.
If true, we could see Google selling the Pixel Tablet for different prices, depending on the dock you choose. The speaker dock would naturally be more expensive than the charging-only dock. It could also mean that users may be able to pair the Pixel Tablet with their existing Nest speakers without having to spend extra on a new one just for the tablet.
