Taylor Swift‘s sleek black cat eye has been part of her signature look for more than a decade now, but she’s given her go-to eye makeup look an upgrade for the release of her tenth studio album, Midnights — and she has the one and only Pat McGrath to thank.

Swift teased what appears to be the biggest, sparkliest cat eye look of all time via TikTok, using lyrics of her new song “Vigilante Shit” to give fans a sneak peek at the glimmering makeup. “Draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill a man,” Swift lip-syncs in black and white before the beat drops and the video changes to full color to reveal an ornate bejeweled eye covered in gems in crystal and blue. The jewels are anchored by an inky black cat eye with a super long, super sharp wing and Swift’s signature crimson lip.

Apparently, this is a teaser of something big to come from Swift, and we’re pretty sure that means a music video, given that Midnights is supposed to be a visual album.

In case you’re still on the prowl for Halloween inspiration or looking to bust out of a makeup rut, McGrath’s team shared details for Swift’s sparkly glam. McGrath used Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection foundation and concealer to prep Swift’s skin, then began crafting the eye makeup look with shades Blitz Venus, Skintense Glow, Astral Lilac Aura, Xtreme Nocturne and Platinum Dusk from the Mothership X: Moonlit Seduction Palette, plus Sterling from the Mothership IV: Decadence Palette. To shape the cat eye, McGrath used both PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil and Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Xtreme Black, then applied crystals to Swift’s eyelids and inner and outer corners using eyelash adhesive. That scarlet lip is courtesy PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencils in Deep Dive and Blood Lust, plus a coat of LiquiLust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick in Elson 4.

While this blinged-out look was created for a special project, it bears a striking resemblance to Swift’s 2022 VMAs glam, which also featured tons of sparkle, dagger-sharp liner, and a red lip. Was that look a reference to her 2017 album Reputation as some fans believed, or was Swift simply teasing a new era of full-on glitter and glamour? She’s always five steps ahead, so we’ll have to wait until this secret project drops to find out for sure.
