Michael Hewlett

The Assembly, North Carolina’s digital statewide magazine, has tapped Michael Hewlett to serve as a criminal justice reporter. He was at the Winston-Salem Journal for more than 20 years, 13 of those as a legal affairs reporter.

Previously, Hewlett covered local government and criminal justice issues in Bedford County and then local government in the city of Lynchburg, Va. for the News & Advocate.

He was a general assignment reporter at the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C. and covered K-12 education in three school systems, as well as higher education, for the Daily News Leader. He interned at the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Hewlett has a B.A. in journalism from Washington and Lee University.
