TL;DR
- Some iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max cameras are shaking and making a rattling noise.
- The issue only occurs when using the camera in third-party apps.
- This suggests a problem related to optical image stabilization.
The iPhone 14 series was revealed a couple of weeks ago, and devices are finally landing in the hands of consumers. However, it turns out that some of these users are reporting some rather concerning camera issues.
Users on TikTok, Twitter, and other platforms (h/t: 9to5Mac) are reporting that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max main cameras are shaking uncontrollably and even making a loud grinding or rattling noise when using third-party apps. The issue seems to pop up when using the camera in the likes of Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok.
The grinding noise in particular is very concerning. Check out the Twitter video below.
We’re guessing this has to do with the camera’s sensor-shift image stabilization hardware. It’s normal to hear a little rattling sound on phones with optical stabilization hardware, but this sound is on another level altogether.
The fact that there doesn’t seem to be noise or shakiness when using the iPhone camera app itself suggests that this could be fixed with software updates (either an iPhone update or app updates). Nevertheless, it’s still a major flaw that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
