Paging Dr. McDreamy! Wait… is that really you? Actor Patrick Dempsey is changing things up in a big way with his hair color by ditching his signature thick, salt-and-pepper hair in favor of an icy platinum shade. Yes, you read that right: Dr. Shepherd is now a platinum blonde.

Patrick’s wife, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, posted a few pictures of her husband’s transformation at Disney’s D23 Expo, writing, “I’m so proud of my ‘platinum-coiffe’ hubby @patrickdempsey. You officially are now a Legend!” Patrick was there to be honored with a Disney Legend title alongside stars like Tracee Ellis Ross and his Grey’s Anatomy onscreen wife, Ellen Pompeo, but his blonde ambition was definitely the center of attention at the event.

Patrick also shared a snap of himself and his wife at the event, and his caption leads us to believe that Jillian is responsible for her husband’s white-blonde coif. Was this a husband-and-wife collaboration to hint at a new era for the Disenchanted actor?

Not quite. The platinum hue probably isn’t permanent, but it is for a role. Patrick will step into the shoes (or is it sit behind the wheel?) of racecar driver Piero Taruffi in the forthcoming Ferrari movie. He told Variety that the color will stick around for two more months and that he’s enjoying the transformation. “I love it … It’s fun to do something different,” he said.
